What is a Whiskey Smash?
A whiskey smash is a classic cocktail made from whiskey, fresh lemon, and mint. The lemon and mint are muddled together, shaken with whiskey, and poured over ice. It is served with fresh lemon and mint as garnish.
This is a delicious summer take on the classic whiskey smash. It has the addition of fresh berries, a homemade berry syrup, and a splash of pineapple juice to balance out the flavors. This cocktail is fruity and refreshing and perfect for your next happy hour.
Tips for making this cocktail perfectly
Thoroughly muddle the berries in the cocktail shaker. Shaking alone will not extract the same flavor as muddling will.
Vigorously shake the cocktail, which will not only help combine the ingredients but it also aerates the pineapple juice, which will give you a nice frothy foam.
Use fresh lime juice! If there is one tip to follow, it’s this one. The bottle citrus juices you see at the grocery store have additives in them, and they are overly acidic, and taste like chemicals. Go the extra step and juice those limes.
Depending on how much pulp you like in your drink, you can either double strain it, or use a hawthorne strainer for a smoother cocktail.
If whiskey is not your thing, you could always substitute any type of dark rum in this cocktail
